Our work covers the whole of Malawi’s Northern Region. We are based in Mzuzu with our partner organisation, Centre for Youth and Development. We began working in the North as we felt this is where we could have the greatest impact. We now hope to expand into the Central and Southern Regions, covering 80% of schools by 2023.
We are currently working in 8 districts in the Northern Region. We have multiple schools in each district, and each school has a computer lab with 20 PCs. We provide maintenance and training to each school to enable teachers and students to make the most of their PCs from day one.
Our SolarBerry Project, an innovative, solar-powered computer lab housed in a repurposed shipping container, is currently under construction and will be based at Choma. This is approximately 20km North of Mzuzu which will allow us to monitor and support the school while we implement this pilot project. We hope to roll out the SolarBerry in more off-grid communities across the whole of Malawi to ensure more young people and communities have the opportunity to gain the digital skills they need for the modern world.
