Who are the Turing Trust
The Turing Trust was set up by Alan Turing’s family to enable IT supported learning by reusing computers in classrooms globally. We provide skills development while reducing waste and contributing to an environmentally friendly society.
We are a charity based in Edinburgh where our small, but steadily growing team continually strives to maximise the impact we can make every day to create a world where every child can enjoy the transformative power of technology-enabled education.
What Our Team Have To Say
We Are A Real Living Wage Employer
The Turing Trust is a Real Living Wage employer with every member of staff earning at least the Real Living Wage. The Living Wage Foundation sets an hourly rate independently and updated annually, based on the cost of living in the UK. The Trustees believe that everyone deserves to be paid at least the Real Living Wage. With this in mind, we also ensure that our team’s salaries increase at least at the annual rate of inflation.
We Offer Flexible Work & Annual Leave
Many of our team work in hybrid roles, working from home and from our workshop as per the operational needs of The Turing Trust to deliver services effectively and ensuring that our culture of relationships and connections is shared amongst the whole team. We have regular staff socials to ensure everyone gets the chance to relax together outside of work regardless of whether they work from home or the office.
Flexi-time is available to all staff, subject to operational needs as per each role, with core and flexible hours in place. We support a positive work-life balance, and are family-friendly so we always try to adjust working hours to make things work for our team. As a team we all recognise the importance of work-life balance and that feeling of finishing work for the day on time!
We also offer flexible annual leave enabling flexibility regarding public holidays, time off in lieu alongside personal time off on request. We also have an annual leave bonus scheme, awarding additional days off to our team for additional years of service. We strive to make working arrangements flexible for our team to enable them to thrive at our charity.
We Support Career Development
We offer all of our team regular training opportunities that are customised to each person’s particular roles and their individual interests. Whenever suitable we promote internally in the first place, enabling our team to grow with the organisation and explore new career paths.
Through our volunteering activities and partnerships with employability programmes we are often helping people to break through barriers to long-term employment and return to the workplace. This also means we’re able to offer a wide variety of opportunities for people to get their first starts in management or new fields.
We Offer Other Perks Too
To promote healthier journeys to work and support our social and environmental aspirations, we offer the chance to participate in the Government initiated Cycle to Work Scheme. Bicycles (including electric bikes) are bought by us and loaned to you for a 12-month period, during which time you repay the amount via salary sacrifice, reducing your tax and National Insurance contributions.
We have a similar programme for buying tech and household goods via our Techscheme that enables savings of up to 12% and spreads the costs over a year.
Our Hiring Process
Our hiring process typically includes the following stages:
1. Submit your application online
- We want to learn about you, your skills and your background to check your potential fit with The Turing Trust. We do this through reviewing your CV and covering letter alongside any additional requirements for each role.
- Our application process is always rolling, so the earlier you apply the earlier you’re likely to be invited to interview.
2. An in-depth chat
- At this stage you will interview with your line manager and one other member of the team. We will delve deeper into your experience, motivations and potential contributions to the team. Whilst interviewing you will also have the chance to learn more about The Turing Trust and ask any questions you have about us and the proposed role.
- Where suitable we also prepare a short practical test, such as a written exercise or situational role-play, that is relevant to the role for you to demonstrate your relevant skills.
- Where possible we conduct interviews in-person at our workshop in Edinburgh and give you a tour of our operations so you can get a feel for the wider team and the workshop side of our operations.
- We aim to interview a handful of applicants and make a decision within 2 months of listing the job advert.
3. That’s it!
- Typically that’s all of the stages for most of our roles; however, from time to time we do add a few things as pertinent to the advertised role. We respond to all candidates as soon as we can once a decision has been made. For those who are unsuccessful are always happy to provide feedback that we hope will be helpful for you going forward. Indeed, even if this particular role wasn’t the right fit, we will often reach out to great candidates who might suit other roles in the future.
- As part of the onboarding process we like to ensure you meet every team member and gain insights into your new roles before starting. We provide paid taster days before your official start date, allowing you to make sure the role aligns with what you were hoping for.
