WE NOW ACCEPT ALL TYPES OF DIGITAL CURRENCY

Did you know that we were one of the first UK digital inclusion charities to accept cryptocurrency donations?

Since 2016 we have been generously supported by hundreds of donors with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and several other cryptocurrencies. We continue to be astounded by the growth of crypto-philanthropy and believe that blockchain, crypto, NFTs and other digital innovations have incredible potential to connect new audiences to our work and bridge the digital divide, ensuring everyone has a chance to engage with these world-changing technologies.

Alan Turing was a pioneering computer scientist, cryptographer, and mathematician who contributed enormously to these fields in his time. His work arguably paved the way for Satoshi Nakamoto’s invention of Bitcoin, so it seems fitting that this exciting technology is now being used to help people across the globe.

Crypto Philanthropy is a new fundraising avenue we are thrilled to explore. With the value of many cryptocurrencies rising and more than 220 million crypto users worldwide, the crypto community is in a position to make a wide-reaching impact through philanthropy. We are excited about what the future holds in the crypto and blockchain space, and believe that we’ve just scratched the surface of its true fundraising potential. By accepting a wide array of cryptocurrencies, we make it possible for people all over the world to support us, allowing them to donate at their discretion and anonymously.

All donations received by The Turing Trust are used to fund our all-important mission. We will typically convert cryptocurrency to an appropriate fiat currency so that the donation can immediately start making an impact, enabling more people to learn vital digital skills.

For United States tax residents, the IRS classifies cryptocurrencies as property, so cryptocurrency donations to 501(c)3 charities receive the same tax treatment as stocks. Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, meaning you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it on your taxes. This makes Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax-efficient ways to support your favourite cause. You can donate Bitcoin, Ethereum, DOGE, Litecoin, and more. Please contact your tax or financial advisor for more information.

If you want to learn more about how donating crypto can lower your taxes, check out the FAQ section here.

NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token. The token refers to a unit of cryptocurrency on the blockchain, a public ledger on which cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin transactions are stored.

NFT is analogous to a digital certificate of authenticity that serves as proof of ownership. You can donate the proceeds from the sale of an NFT to The Turing Trust if you first convert it to one of the cryptocurrencies that we accept which includes Ethereum and Bitcoin.

You can donate NFT cryptocurrency proceeds through our cryptocurrency donation page. If you are an artist, athlete or public figure who would like to sell or donate NFT proceeds to The Turing Trust, please send an inquiry to info@turingtrust.co.uk
