Corporate volunteering team day Edinburgh

First Sentier Investors: An Insight into Corporate Volunteering

We’re so grateful to the team at First Sentier Investors here in Edinburgh for donating their time to support our charity. Back in May, the team joined us in our warehouse for their sixth corporate volunteering day. To mark the occasion, we sat down with Kata, a Project Manager at First Sentier, to learn more about her motivations for volunteering with the Turing Trust and her thoughts on corporate giving.

Where it all began

Our relationship with First Sentier Investors was formed back in 2023 when the team kindly donated a number of laptops for reuse. With our mission and values aligning closely with First Sentier’s education-focused philanthropic initiative, The First Sentier Foundation, and our main offices just a stone’s throw apart, we began to discuss further opportunities for collaboration.

Our main offices are in Edinburgh, so it’s fantastic to be able to support a local charity. Since the start, everyone has been so welcoming, and it’s clear the staff are really passionate about what they do.

Driving impact within Edinburgh and beyond

Since 2023, the First Sentier team have joined us for six corporate volunteering days – with a seventh scheduled for later this year! The days have proven to be invaluable for the team, not only presenting an opportunity to support a local charity and have a global impact, but also encouraging collaboration between different departments.

As a parent myself, I’m passionate about supporting future generations. The work we do has such an impact on children’s lives – it’s astonishing what we can achieve in just 2-3 days a year.

Beyond this, our partnership has highlighted the value and importance of corporate social responsibility, with Kata now championing sustainability across the organisation.

Throughout the years, First Sentier has formed partnerships with various other non-profits across the UK, Ireland, Asia, Australia and the US, prioritising funding for organisations which address the root causes of educational inequality. It’s such an honour to be able to work alongside them to build a brighter future for students across the globe.
