Closing the Digital Divide with The Thika Alumni Trust

We’ve been working alongside The Thika Alumni Trust (TTAT), a charity dedicated to transforming education in Africa through technology, to deliver essential digital resources to a number of schools across Kenya.

United by our mission to empower disadvantaged communities and make technology-enabled education accessible for all, we’ve built a purposeful partnership with Harpal Punia, Chairperson at The Thika Alumni Trust, enabling us to deliver some fantastic outcomes for students over the years.

Working with their local team of volunteers and educators, TTAT have installed over 2,500 computers in 40 eLearning centres in schools across Kenya, giving 40,000 students access to digital education. Our donation of 400 Thin Clients enabled TTAT to accomplish some of this mammoth task.

The TTAT team’s local insights have helped to ensure each laptop and desktop we donate is used to its full potential. To enhance students’ learning, they install Digital Library content on every device and deliver extensive training programmes to teachers to develop their knowledge and digital skills.

Thanks to the new eLearning centres, both students and educators have embraced the digital learning environment. The donated devices have helped to make lessons more engaging and interactive and have led to increased engagement, improved results in the national exams and reduced absenteeism.

Last year, TTAT extended their impact, working to install 10 desktop-equipped units in 8 schools to support students with special educational needs.

“TTAT strives to provide underprivileged communities and schools in Kenya with access to modern IT equipment, helping to narrow the digital divide. This would not be possible without the help of partners like Turing Trust.” – Harpal, Chairperson at The Thika Alumni Trust

In 2023, we were able to send over 1,000 computers to schools in Kenya. With the help of your donations and support from our partners, we hope to build on this in 2024 and give more schools across the country access to these vital digital resources.
