Jamie first discovered us through a simple Google search while researching the work of Alan Turing and the history of encryption. What started as a historical interest quickly turned into a life-changing experience when Jamie joined us as a Community Programme participant.
At the time, Jamie was looking for a sense of community and a chance to be around like-minded people who shared a passion for technology. Jamie shared that being part of the team helped his mental health. Being surrounded by “bright, kind, and passionate individuals” was exactly what Jamie needed during times of feeling low. It was a place where Jamie felt “at ease and welcome regardless of who you are,” where any mistake was simply seen as a fixable learning opportunity.
During his time in the programme, Jamie got stuck into the technical side of things. Jamie found “so much joy and a feeling of accomplishment” in being hands-on with the machines, knowing that this work directly helps provide education to children who haven’t had the same exposure to technology.
The most rewarding part of the journey for Jamie wasn’t just the technical skills, but the massive growth in confidence and interpersonal skills. This experience helped revitalise Jamie’s passion for computers exactly when it was needed most.
This renewed spark led to Jamie entering further education and is now studying for an HNC in Cyber Security at Edinburgh College meaning Jamie is well on the way to a bright career in tech.
We are so proud of everything Jamie has achieved and are grateful to have been a part of his journey.
