Ted has volunteered with our charity for the last five months, diving headfirst into various projects and tasks ranging from tech operations to data management. Now, ready to embark on his next chapter, Ted joins us to reflect on his experience as a volunteer at the Turing Trust.
“The global impact of the Turing Trust work strengthened my application for my master’s in International Relations, complementing the technical skills and Excel proficiency I acquired, which will transfer into my courses and workplace”
When Ted joined us, he was keen to marry his background in social anthropology and interest in international work with this drive to gain experience within the charity sector. So, after learning more about our mission and connection to Alan Turing, he joined our volunteering team here in Edinburgh.
Despite coming from a non-technical background, Ted has quickly adapted to the fast-paced environment of our warehouse and has proven to be a real asset to the team.
With much support and encouragement from his fellow volunteers, he has developed his confidence and skills whilst gaining invaluable real-world experience to support the next steps in his career journey.
“My experience with Turing Trust has undoubtedly contributed to my journey to my master’s. Volunteering at The Turing Trust helped bridge my academic background with practical skills and real-world challenges.”
Looking to the future, Ted is keen to pursue a career in security intelligence focusing on the MENA region following his master’s in International Relations at the University of St Andrews – and we have no doubt he’ll succeed!
It’s been a real honour to work with Ted, and we’re so pleased to have played a part in his journey.
