Donated computer in class in Colombia

Reducing the Rural Education Gap in Colombia

We recently sent 97 devices to the Fundación para la Equidad Educativa (FEE) in a bid to improve the quality of education of children in rural areas of Colombia.

The FEE is a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing the rural education gap. Since starting their work back in 2020, the foundation has supported more than 150 children in 9 rural schools in Boyacá and Cundinamarca.

They run a range of programmes designed to empower teachers, transform pedagogical models and ensure every student has the tools and resources they need to access the best opportunities in life.

One of their core programmes is Scratch Digital Adventures, which promotes the development of computational thinking and programming skills from early childhood. Students attend weekly programming classes which use Project Based Learning to create a more engaging and effective learning environment, helping students develop both technical skills and the confidence needed to thrive in the digital world.

This programme, like much of their work, relies on technology. Donations like ours are helping the FEE to expand their projects and reach more students across rural Colombia. Over the years, these devices will support the learning of thousands of pupils, helping to bridge the digital divide and bring more opportunities to those in rural areas. The team at FEE adds:

“Thanks to these resources, children will now have the opportunity to explore computer tools individually, something that was previously difficult because they had to share a single device among three or more classmates. This change will allow them to progress at their own pace and follow a more holistic process in their learning.

This donation will not only foster the development of computational skills in students but will also provide them with valuable tools to face the challenges of everyday life.”
