Inspiring Future Voices with Cornish Views Education Foundation

Around 40% of children in the Republic of Congo fail to complete primary school. With each additional year of education thought to increase annual earnings by around 10%, to break the cycle of poverty, something has to change.

A driving force behind that change is the Cornish Views Education Foundation (CVEF), a charity dedicated to making a positive impact on education in the Republic of Congo.

Like the Turing Trust, the foundation is empowering underserved communities through education. To ensure every student has access to the tools they need to reach their full potential, CVEF provides essential resources, infrastructure improvements and educational support to schools across Congo-Brazzaville.

In recent years, it’s become increasingly important for schools to have access to digital devices, not only to enhance lessons, but to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.

And that’s where we come in.

As a charity, we’re committed to creating new opportunities for underserved communities through technology, so we were thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Cornish Views Education Foundation to bring digital devices to schools across Congo-Brazzaville.

Through our computer reuse scheme, we were able to donate 15 laptops and 5 tablets to support the foundation’s ongoing education initiatives.

Donations in action

Having previously had limited access to technology, the devices have already made a big difference in the local community. The tablets are supporting the CVEF team to manage and monitor projects and enhance communications with schools, while the laptops are enabling teachers to access additional resources to support their lesson planning and professional development.

But it’s the next generation who have benefitted most from the new devices; lessons have become more engaging and informative, the digital gap between rural and urban schools has been reduced, and students are able to access new skills and opportunities.

Inspiring future voices

To mark the shift towards a more technology-enabled future, 10 outstanding students from sixth forms across Brazzaville were invited to Radio MUCODEC to celebrate World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, celebrated annually to highlight the growing role of digital technologies in our lives.

Students were immersed in the world of broadcasting, with opportunities to engage with practical demonstrations and gain valuable insights into careers in media and communications.

For many students, this experience was not only an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with technology, but was also an opportunity to discover a range of new career possibilities.

To support their continued exploration, learning and growth, CVEF provided each of the students with their own laptop. With the students now entering the next stage of their education, these devices will be invaluable in helping them to access additional resources, tools and skills to support their studies and future careers.

Thank you to all of our donors and volunteers for enabling us to support projects like this. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to significantly broaden our reach and bring digital learning to more countries across the globe.

If you have any unwanted devices, please consider donating them here. Together, we can bridge the digital divide and ensure every student has access to the tools they need to succeed.
