Global Minorities Alliance (GMA) is a Scottish charity that runs an education project in Pakistan, providing scholarships to disadvantaged primary school children, including those from under-privileged communities or single-parent households, and those with disabilities.
Since 2016, GMA has supported more than 100 students at Holy Cross Primary School in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, providing them with books, bags, stationery and financial support.
Recognising the impact of their work, the charity was approached by the principal of the school to support the development of a digital library to enable more students to access the resources they need to succeed.
After hearing about the project through Global Minorities Alliance earlier this year, we donated 10 refurbished laptops to help bring the new digital library to life.
I am thrilled to receive the donation from Turing Trust and Global Minorities Alliance, which has helped us to open our first digital lab in our school. We are thankful for this support. This facility will empower students to gain digital learning and confidence, and help them engage with the digital world in a positive way. Thank you.
Zubaida John, Principal at Holy Cross Church
Before receiving the devices from us, the school had no computers. Now, More than 250 students have access to the laptops, helping them learn vital digital skills to support their education and future careers.
Teachers have also benefited from the donated devices, using them to plan lessons and access new resources to further their development and enhance their teaching.
This initiative marks our first project in Pakistan and represents an important milestone for our charity, highlighting the global reach of our work. With the continued support of our partners, donors and volunteers, we will continue to broaden our impact and ensure every child has access to the resources they need to succeed in life.
Manassi Bernard, one of GMA Board of Trustees said, ‘Access to digital devices and skills are important parts of education nowadays, and we are thrilled to deliver this project with help from Turing Trust. We are looking forward to future collaboration’.
