The Turing Trust team were privileged to be invited to visit the African Science Academy in Tema, a specialist science and maths “Sixth Form” college for girls from the African continent. It was founded by the African Gifted Foundation and its students will take Cambridge International A levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics in 1 year. However, the college is about much more than just academic achievement and offers a wide range of activities including a speaker programme. It was therefore entirely appropriate that Nicola Turing gave a talk about Alan Turing and his role in early computing and introduced the students and their teachers to the work and aspirations of the Turing Trust. We look forward to hearing about the success of this first intake of students – although they only started their studies in August 2016, they have already taken their AS exams.
