Aboantem Basic School in the Bosomtwe district in the Ashanti region of Ghana is now host to a Turing Trust computer lab. After several months of preparation from the students, Aboantem community, teachers and the entire Bosomtwe district, our team arrived at the school to install the new lab of 20 PCs all of which are pre-loaded with offline educational resources.

The students were thrilled to receive the PCs which mean they are now able to fully prepare for their external ICT examinations. These require lots of practical experience of using PCs to build their digital skills as well as looking at computing theory.

Our team touched base with a few of the students and their head teacher to see how they felt about the lab. Moses, a final year student now feels he can prepare himself properly for the Basic Education Certificate Examination which he’ll sit in April 2019. Aboantem’s headteacher, Cynthia Kwanin, was delighted with the installation and is sure that the lab will help the school see an improvement in the exam results over the next academic year. She introduced us to Comfort, a first-year student who told us:

I must say I am blessed to be part of this school now. As a new student, it is a great opportunity for me to prepare very well during my three year stay here. I hope to be a system developer in future and l believe this is the right beginning.
