A Local Partnership with International Impact

We’ve been the official school charity for the University of Edinburgh’s School of Informatics since 2018. From volunteering days to fundraising campaigns, we’re so grateful for their support over the years – and we look forward to working together for many more to come. As our partnership continues to evolve, we’re taking a moment to reflect on where it all began.

Having studied at the University of Edinburgh, our Founder and CEO, James Turing, was familiar with the University’s commitment to education, global development and community engagement. It’s these shared values, community ties and the University’s own infrastructure for supporting volunteering that have helped our partnership flourish.

Throughout the years, the University has hosted several campaigns to raise funds and awareness for our charity, including hoodie drives and charity ceilidh events. Both staff and students have also joined us for a number of volunteering days, helping to prepare devices for reuse in schools across the globe.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see our partnership with the University of Edinburgh’s School of Informatics grow from a few volunteer days into a long-term collaboration – including  2021’s Volunteer Week, and the Innovation Initiative Grant project in Ghana. Together, we’ve helped thousands of students gain access to digital education. This local partnership truly demonstrates how a shared commitment to global development can have a meaningful, international impact.”

Neil Heatley, Head of Student Services, adds: “If anyone is looking to volunteer, I would highly recommend the Turing Trust. It’s great to be able to partner with a local charity with an international impact. It’s not just a charity you support—it’s an experience that shows you how your time and effort translates directly into global change.”
