#1 Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
A company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) can have a big influence on consumers, employees and investors. From attracting and retaining top talent to improving your brand’s reputation and customer loyalty, CSR is playing an increasingly important role for businesses looking to succeed in today’s market.
Donating your old computers and technology to a reputable computer reuse charity can help to demonstrate your company’s commitment to CSR, helping to reduce your environmental impact whilst supporting social causes. And if you want to take things a step further, why not encourage your employees to donate their unused IT kit lying at home, to volunteer with our charity or join us on a corporate volunteering day? Check out our current vacancies here.

CPD Online
We provide social and environmental impact reporting to support your CSR strategy through our donation tracking mechanisms, helping to demonstrate the impact of your donation in terms of carbon savings made along with the number of students supported. We can also provide bespoke reporting where required and help to spread the word about your significant donation via our social media profiles.
#2 Data protection
As a business, you have a responsibility to ensure any personal data – be it your clients’, suppliers’ or employees’ – is protected. This means, when your devices come to the end of their life, you need to ensure you comply with GDPR and data destruction standards.
If you choose to donate your pre-loved technology to our computer reuse charity, we’ll ensure every device is wiped to UK Government standards using market-leading Blancco data erasure software. We’ll also provide data destruction certificates for all data-bearing assets if required.
At The Turing Trust, we pride ourselves on ensuring data erasure is carried out to the highest standard, including HMG Infosec Standard No. 5 (the ‘Enhanced Standard’), and can meet several other data destruction standards as required, including NIST 800-88 Purge and US DoD 5220.22-M. To learn more, read our full data destruction policy here.
#3 Possible savings
Did you know, an estimated 2 million tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) items are discarded in the UK each year? To ensure as little of this WEEE is incinerated or sent to landfill sites, UK regulations require businesses to dispose of their waste electrical and electronic equipment responsibly.

Provided your product was purchased after 13th August 2005, the producer of your device will be responsible for the disposal of your WEEE. However, you may still be required to arrange for the collection or delivery of your old equipment to a designated facility or come to an alternative commercial arrangement where you might agree to finance the process.
If you choose to donate your old equipment to our charity, we’ll take care of the hard stuff. We provide a free data destruction service using NCSC-approved Blancco software as standard for all donors and can organise a free UK-wide collection service for larger donations. The Turing Trust can also provide Waste Transfer Notes.
Our team looks after the complete process for you, from powering down your old equipment to removal from site, data wiping and recycling, or if possible, preferably reuse.
By supporting our computer reuse charity you’ll unlock total peace of mind knowing you’ll meet all the relevant data protection (GDPR) and environmental legislation and have full documentation to demonstrate compliance. You’ll also help to close the digital divide whilst unlocking significant benefits for your business by demonstrating your commitment to CSR – it’s a win-win!
