DigiUK donated laptops

Bridging the Digital Divide with DigiUK

Last year, we launched our DigiUK Project to help bridge the digital divide for disadvantaged youth in the UK – and we’ve received some fantastic feedback already.

With the help of our volunteers, we’ve been able to refurbish and distribute over 900 donated devices – including laptops, desktop computers, phones and tablets – to young people across the UK, helping to enhance their education by improving access to digital resources.

Check out the feedback below to discover how your old devices are being used to support organisations across the UK.

Project Feedback

Cumbernauld Primary School

Cumbernauld Primary School in Glasgow received a number of C-pens as part of our DigiUK Project, which are playing a vital role in improving students’ reading skills.

The donated devices have already made a real impact in the classroom and are set to enhance the learning of many more pupils over the coming years. Teacher Diane Cardle adds: “They found them useful in tackling unfamiliar vocabulary, and it has helped to increase independence when reading alone.”

Care4Calais

Care4Calais, a volunteer-run refugee charity, received 50 devices to support their work with refugees here in the UK. The donated laptops and phones are not only enabling asylum seekers to keep in touch with family members, but are also helping them to learn English, study and complete important paperwork.

Elkida, a secondary school student and asylum seeker adds: “The laptop the Turing Trust provided me with has allowed me to take a course, and it helps me a lot with my presentations and homework. I am so thankful for the laptop.”

The CoderDojo

The CoderDojo in Southwark, London is a free, volunteer-led computer club which was started to help young people learn to code in a creative, safe and social environment. The laptops donated as part of our DigiUK Project will ensure the club has sufficient resources to support young learners who may not otherwise have access to a computer.

“We’ve experienced a surge in participation, and these laptops have played a pivotal role in ensuring that no child is left without this valuable learning tool.”
