Supporting Malawi’s Educational Backbone

We have been honoured to supply donated computers to the Central West Education Division through our Improving Access to ICT program.

Malawian Secondary and Primary education is divided into six Education Divisions. The Central West Education Division (CWED) comprises the City of Lilongwe plus 4 Districts; Lilongwe Rural; Mchinji; Ntcheu and Dedza. The staff at CWED help with the administration of all the schools within these areas covering hundreds of thousands of students.

Being able to support CWED with donated IT equipment is particularly important as it will help with one of their critical roles, collecting and analysing school data. Every year the Ministry of Education prepares an Annual Secondary/Primary School Census Questionnaire. This is critical to enable efforts to be directed toward schools that need the most help.

Beyond this, we are glad to report that the increased availability of IT equipment at CWED means that more of their management work can be brought in-house whereas previously it had to be outsourced to use the required IT facilities. This means that much of the work for the accounts office, planning office and management office has been simplified.

To help us continue to open new opportunities for students and teachers in Malawi, be sure to check out our give computers page to discover how to get involved and explore the impacts your donated technology could have.
